Obituary of Amar Singh Tayal

The devoted husband of Gayatri Tayal, they had been married for over 67 years. Amar Singh was born in Roorkee, India, on August 29, 1932. He was a gifted athlete in all sports but was exceptionally talented in field hockey, swimming and wrestling. His army training and athletic achievements earned him a university scholarship, where his studies led him to become a Chartered Librarian, recognised by the United Kingdom. Little did he know, that this achievement would later lead him to finally settle down in the UK. He moved to England with his wife and children in 1972, where he built a solid and stable career from his profession, taking retirement at the age of 62 so he could enjoy quality time with family and friends, and travel the world to his heart’s desire. In his mid-70’s Amar Singh sadly developed Alzheimer’s disease. As a result, he and Gayatri moved to Canada in 2010 to live with their son Vijay and his family. Despite the setback in his health he was always smiling, kept a very happy demeanor, and was known by all for his jolly nature and fun-loving character. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Amar Singh commanded love and respect wherever he went. He will be dearly missed by all.
