My deepest sympathies to the family. A friend, a true Canadian, a fighter to the end. So sad and yet whenever I think of him, I am filled with pride, respect and especially feel honoured to have known him. RIP Dr Singh. May you organize a parade in heaven, and as you would say, no matter who or what you believe in, pray that all goes well!

ॐ A few days ago My parents let me know about the passing of my dearest uncle Dr Roopnarine Singh. I don't know where to start but he has left a huge void in the world and I will attempt to illustrate some of his accomplishments as a devoted husband to late Aunty Liz, father to their late K9 Raja, devotee of Shri Krishna, public intellectual, Super Patriot Canadian community leader and top tier Cardiologist. I'm overwhelmed with emotions and what I'm writing below is just some free flow straight from the heart and memory and so excuse the lack of structure. Uncle and Aunty Liz both came from humble beginnings in Trinidad. My parents met them through common friends in Montreal and soon realized that Dr Singh Uncle's family traced its origins in roughly the same part of India as my parents. We had the same sub-culture preserved in Trinidad as we find in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Same food, worship practices, music and the like. They made dhaal puri and tarkaari --------- we made daalbhari paraathaas and tarkaari. #samething My parents still relate the story of one time when they hosted the Singhs for dinner and the absolute delight in Uncle's eyes when he saw that my mum had prepared daalbhari paraathaas and pumpkin curry along with kheer/meethaa bhaat. "Liz, look, they made dhaalpuri for us". Uncle and Aunty led the East and West Indian community in Montreal with their awesome Mustang Convertible in both Annual Canada Day Parades and Krishna Leela at Jeanne-Mance Park. They used to hold satsangs at their beautiful home in Brossard. These wonderful memories will stay with me for life. Uncle and Aunty are now reunited in vaikuntha dhaam and I pray that their pious Atma-s attain eternal peace. Thank you so much for being such influential figures in my life. I am forever indebted to both of you and miss you sorely. Dr. Roopnarine Singh was a very noble & ambitious man. As a very young nurse, I met him when I was 22 years old (over 40 years ago) ... I worked at the Reddy Memorial Hospital in Montreal with him (he the Cardiologist me the nurse) from 1978 until 1997 (the Reddy then closed) ... We ran the 1997 Federal Elections together ... he ran for Westmount ... I ran for N.D.G. as Independant Candidates ... He was the founder of The Montreal Canada Day Parade in 1977. I was his Chauffeur for the Parade for 7 years & also had fun cutting the cake (with the cake team) that fed 3,000 people . Nick Cowen is the Main Organizer of the Parade for the past 7 years & I am the Executive Director. Dr. Singh loved his (late) supportive wife Liz ... he frequently told me..."I love that woman's smile" ... he appreciated all his family members . As a McGill Cardiologist graduate , he worked simultaneouly at the Reddy Memorial Hospital & Lachine General Hospital. In approx. 1997, Dr. Singh bought a bank (naturally the volt was empty) & transformed it into a clinic for a few years ... he then sold the clinic & opened another medical clinic on St. Catherine Street (across from Alexhis Neon Plaza)... he also opened a clinic in Trinidad. Dr. Singh was a passionate golfer, author of 2 books, was very quick-minded, quick to smile... with a sharp sense of humor...he was a world traveller with his wife at his side...he immensely enjoyed , sharing, entertaining and Prayers. Dr. Singh was a vegetarian who loved Indian food, especially the desserts... I frequently ate lunch with him & his wife at "The Maharaja" (now closed) ... he enjoyed watching & playing the stock market...one of his other hobbies besides gardening & admiring each flower was visiting the Casino with his wife. I went along sometimes...he would give me $50.00 to play ... I would lose it, but, somehow, (I don't know how) would win it back & return the $ to him. Dr. Singh...thank you for adding some color to our lives ... you will be missed ... rest well ... my condolences to family and friends.
Warmly, Caroline
