Obituary of Jaspal Singh Wadhwa

Please share a memory of Jaspal to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jaspal Wadhwa, 75, of Mississauga, Ontario passed away on May 26, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Harbans Singh and Harnam Kaur on October 30, 1946, in Punjab. He moved, as an infant, with his family to New Delhi with partition. Jaspal graduated from India Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 1968 with a degree in electrical engineering. In 1974, he married Uttamjit Kaur, his beloved wife of 48 years, and they welcomed their children Vikram and Gagan Deep. After 10 years of success in the oil industry in Kuwait, the family moved to Halifax in 1990, where Jaspal and Uttam raised their children and saw them through their medical training. Uttam herself, with great encouragement from Jaspal, also completed training as a psychiatrist there. They later moved to Mississauga in 2007 to be closer to their children and to support Uttam's career. Jaspal deeply valued knowledge and education. His scholastic journey began when, as a precocious child, he successfully secured a spot in a prestigious elementary school in post-partition New Delhi with a letter he wrote to President Nehru. As an adult, he completed a master’s degree at the Technical University of Nova Scotia in engineering, building on his world-class training at IIT. Jaspal instilled the same love of knowledge and education in his children, who both proudly serve as physicians, and in his many students who benefited from his "on-the-job" teaching style over 15 years of serving as instructor at the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology. Spirituality and love of his family sustained Jaspal throughout his life. He was a committed father to his children, loving husband, and fun-loving "Baba" to his three grandchildren. He was a devoted Sikh, serving as president of the Maritime Sikh Society and later supporting the Langar Seva service in Brampton. Jaspal thoroughly enjoyed a chat over tea with family and friends, walks along bodies of water, and of course his passion for “the casino” - avidly following the stock market. It was Jaspal’s unending friendliness, adaptability, ability to speak intelligently about a vast array of subjects, courage and deeply rooted pragmatism that ensured personal and professional success across three continents and a void in our lives, difficult to fill. He is survived by his wife Uttam, son Vikram (Harbinder), daughter Gagan Deep (Gregory), three grandchildren (Arjan, Ajuni, and Ciaran), sisters Tejinder (Jagmohan) and Harbans Kaur (Madhanpal) and nephews (Adesh, Sarabjit, Vishwajeet, and Abhit) and niece (Samian). He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Trilochan (Santosh) and Madhanpal (Harbans Kaur). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jaspal's honor to Langar Seva meal and support services (www.langarseva.ca). **The funeral service will be streamed live via Zoom.
