Obituary of Premankur Ranjan Paul

Premankur Ranjan Paul, (67), of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, passed away on April 10 th
of 2023 in Dubai while on return from a tour of India.
Premankur passed away of cardiac arrest but in actuality passed due to a broken
heart. His wife Srimati (Indra) was by his side.
Premankur (lovingly known as Paul), was born to Promode Chandra Paul and Suniti
Rani Paul on June 2 nd , 1955 in Silat district Bangladesh. He was devote believer in
the Hindu faith incorporating and practicing religious beliefs through his life. Paul
studied and received his optical technician training from Ryerson Polytechnical
Institute working in the profession for more than 45+ years. Paul worked at such
companies like Public Optical and for the majority of his career at Plastics Plus from
1980 till his retirement in 2021. Paul was beyond hard working as a day off of work
was not an option even if sick.
Paul was very in “tuned” with classical Indian, Bollywood cinema and spiritual music
even pursing formal training for numerous years from renown tabla artist Dev
Chakraborty starting past the age of 48. He spent many hours watching his favourite
“sport” of wrestling from the time he entered Canada in 1972 till his passing. He was
a true fan of wrestlers who were technically sound as he valued a high caliber match.
Paul would often be able to tell who would win the fight before the match and referred
to wrestlers that frequently lost as a “punching bag”. Paul was very fond of action
movies from old school spaghetti westerns, to classics from stars like Robert Redford,
Harrison Ford, Kirk Douglas, Dean Martin and Rock Hudson to power packed films of
stars like Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Van Damne, Seagel and even the later
standouts like Keanu Reeves of the John Wick series.
Paul was survived by his wife Indra to whom he was married to for 47 years. He was
the loving father to three children Pradeep, Mahesh and the late Protima. Instilling
religious (hindu) and ethnical (Bengali and Guyanese) culture to his next of kin was of

his highest priority. He was the respected son-in-law of Durga Devi (Jane)
Ramsaroop and the late Mahadeo Singh (Arjun) Ramsaroop. He was the father-in-
law to Anisa. He was the loving grandfather to Anaya and the late Ambika. He is also
survived by his sister Aparana. Paul was the brother-in-law to four sister-in-laws
Dato, Camo, Devi and Shamela, as well as four brother-in-laws Narine, Rajin, the late
Kishore and the late Kumar. Paul was held in high regard by his in-laws as he was
pivotal in sponsoring eight members of family from Guyana to Canada. He was the
uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was very fond of his wife’s family as he took
pride in hosting vast gatherings expressing great generosity and hospitality.
Paul was known for his love of technology. Paul had a passion for all things electronic
with a mass collection of devices through the progression of audio and video. Paul
was known as the camera man often recording many family events through the years.
Paul was very reputable in the Guyanese and Bengali community as he visited many
temples and places of worship and was quick to lend a helping hand wherever
necessary. He was a gentle spirit and would greet all with a smile and a welcoming
hello. A simple man in nature, never quick to rise, he truly lived a life on the principal
of selfless service out his genuine kindness not looking for any favours in return. Any
efforts made on his behalf were true hearted and carried out with best intent. His
sincerity knew no bounds. Paul will truly be missed as there is no measure to
quantify his positive impact to his family and community.
