This photo was taken years ago, but I think it does a great job summarizing our relationship. This wasn’t a traditional grandfather-grandson relationship. You always felt more like my second father. I always felt that it was my duty to make sure you were okay, to make sure you ate, and to make sure you were always smiling; like you were in this picture. This was around the time where I spent entire summers at your house. This was around the time we would see you wheeling that scooter all around Jane and finch doing errands and picking up food to cook. This was the start to an everyday check-in I built into my daily routine. My day couldn’t go on if I did not see you. You left me with a big hole that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fill. I don’t know where that time slot goes from here on out. I don’t know how I’m going to leave work and not drop in to see you. The one thing I will always remember about you, and something that will live on within us all, is your strength. You were the strongest man I knew, both emotionally and physically. You told Father Time to not wait up countless of times, you kept going strong and you kept fighting the good fight. One thing I am happy about is, because of your heart of gold, and the strength you had within you, you’re now at peace. I love you and will always remember you. Rest in peace nana.
