First met Chach in 1986 .
He was humble, confident, respectful and simply a joy to be with. Over the last 37 years these attributes remain.
Chach was given the task to evaluate if I was deserving of joining the family. This was not an interrogation. A half (probably Gold Medal - premium rum back then) followed by son-in-law “pour a drink “. During the next 90 minutes, many innocent questions came my way…just casual conversation…that was the “tact” of Chach … I believe I passed that test…I am here talking to you.
Chach was multi talented. About 10 years ago, I pulled a muscle and could not throw a cricket ball. I had an upcoming game and was panicking. My father-in-law Cyril told me to go see Basil. Modern science has MRI and XRay. Chach has eyes and hands equally effective. He quickly diagnosed the ailment and initiated corrective action. In North America that skilled person is called a Chiropractor.
In our culture, we host big jhandhis. We love to cook seven curry. Now, very few has the talent to “mass” cook, that is cook for many people. I know Sham and Ravi has this talent. I suspect they picked it up from their Dad.
I have never seen Chach angry and I knew this gentleman for 37 years. He spoke his truth quietly albeit in a hoarse voice sometimes. And when he calls me son-in-law, there is sincerity and genuine warmth in that greeting. I will forever remember you.
Happy wife…happy life. Chach quietly demonstrated this. Everything mentioned above, ChaChee will believe she did or she taught him. And he let her believe that. I wish I can invoke the discipline to master that skill.
We Hindus believe in reincarnation. Hence Rest in Peace is not appropriate. The jiva is the life giving force which departs the body when someone dies. Moksha is the liberation from the cycle of births and deaths. May his jiva achieve moksha. Om sadgati, om sadgati, om sadgati.
