In recent years Serena and I worked together and would occasionally share stories about our mothers. They both shared experiences common in those afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease, set on a foundation of love and devotion for family, and a strength found in their faith. Our talks reflected Serena's dedication to her mother and her care, and I know Serena's mother would have been comforted by her compassion and her light.
I offer my condolences to Maina Shastri's loved ones, and especially to Serena.

We cannot but agree with the words stated in the obituary. Memories go back to when she visited from Mombasa to Bombay. Visiting Bombay after getting married in 1962 to Vijay. Subsequently, met her in London, Toronto, New York.
Through the various phases of life with all its changes, she always maintained a positive attitude.
A life well lived.
Rahul and Serena, along with your partners and families, Vijay, Subhash & Kumi with your family, the loss will leave a pain. But, the happy memories will definitely raise your spirits and make you smile and laugh when remembering the various snippets that will flood your mind. No one can take that away from each one of you.
Maina has gone home answering the call. She did it with strength and Grace. The Atma is always at Peace. She will be there for all of us.
May her gift for the zestful life shower its blessings upon all who she knew and touched.

Very sorry to loose beautiful & stunning MAINA from our family. I have known Maina from a very young age from a time when we visited Mombasa & thereafter when I was a student in London from 1960 onwards. She & Vijay gave me lot of support for many years till 1969. She made lovely meals when I visited her. Met her several times in Toronto & Vancouver, London, Mumbai & Bangkok. . Last we saw her was on our way to Chicago when she invited us to stay with her for a few days in transit. She never forgot our birthdays -She was extremely socialable. It will be difficult to forget her - we will always miss her

Maina auntie was a true friend to my mom, Kamla Malhotra, I will always remember her for her "smile" and her kind hospitality, and friendliness when Sabina and I went to her place many years ago.
