Obituary of Ved Prakash Kamra

Please share a memory of Ved to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Ved Prakash Kamra on October 6, 2024.

Ved is survived by his wife Praveen Kamra, his son Sukesh (Joyti Bhardwaj), his daughter Maneesha (Edwinder Pandher), and five beautiful grandchildren Benjamin, Maya, Arjun, Aarav and Devan. He is predeceased by his mother Sumitra Devi Kamra and father Sukh Dev Kamra, brother Sushil Kamra and his sisters Chander Kanta Arora and Prem Kanta Kathuria.

Ved was born in Dazal, India on November 3rd, 1942, to the late Sukh Dev Kamra, a local schoolteacher, and Sumitra Devi Kamra, a mother and housewife. Ved went to school in Amritsar, India, and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Punjab University, India. He worked with Bhopal Bharat Heavy Electric Limited for five years and then he joined the Indian Navy in Delhi as a mechanical engineer in the design of warships. Ved got married in 1976 to Praveen Kamra (née Vohra), who holds a PhD in zoology. In 1976, he immigrated to Montreal and his wife and six-month-old son followed soon after. He went to Montreal as he wanted to see the 1976 summer Olympics, being an avid sportsman himself. Ved and Praveen settled in Montreal and had a daughter not long after. Ved completed his master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Concordia University in Montreal while working full time with General Electric. Ved worked for many reputed aerospace industries like Oerlikon Aerospace, General Electric, Pratt and Whitney, as well as Boeing, where he also worked as an engineer.

Ved had a passion for nature and the outdoors. He loved taking his family on trips every summer and enjoyed family picnics. He enjoyed teaching his children calculus and physics. He was a family-oriented man, attending all his children’s soccer and volleyball games as a sideline coach, and supported his children in all their academic and extracurricular activities, leading them to success in professional lives later on. In 2006, he became a grandfather for the first time, and over the following few years had a total of five grandchildren. He was a very generous and loving grandfather, who loved to spoil the grandchildren and teach them new skills and sports. He always supported their interests, loved to hear about their lives and tell them stories.

He was a man of great integrity, honesty and someone who protected, strengthened and supported others. He stood by his loved ones in their proudest moments and in their struggles. He was strong and steadfast in his loyalty to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of incredible love which is carried on by his loving descendants.
