On behalf of the Diyaljee family, I extend my heartfelt sympathies on this sorrowful occasion to the immediate and extended family of Bridj (wife, son, daughter, grandkids, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws). Bridj was a very good friend of mine, one with whom I was a colleague and classmate at the University of Guyana in 1969, and one with whom I visited on many occasions at his home in Brampton, Ontario and socialized with occasionally for coffee, a beer, and lunch. His passing was indeed an unexpected event and I sincerely regret that I did not visit him after we spoke briefly by phone on the morning of June 5th. His honesty, helpfulness, and kindness as a friend will always be remembered. One instance, amongst many, was his welcoming me in September 1975, when I came to Canada to pursue further studies. Since then, and over the years, we kept in touch with each other despite my residing for several years in Alberta. My move from Alberta to Ontario over the last 10 years saw a continuation of this friendship having relocated to Brampton. To have someone very dear, especially a parent, passing on is often a traumatic and incomprehensible event to loved ones. We often ask the question why, but sadly no clear-cut answers are readily available. For most of us, despite our grief, we must seek solace and peace of mind by reflecting on the good deeds of the departed. Bridj’s travel on earth over the years has undoubtedly allowed him to amass a wealth of good deeds. To all his loved ones including friends, I would encourage natural grieving intertwined with reflections on Bridj’s good deeds. Bridj, may your departed soul rest in peace.
