Rest in peace Jusleen. Even now many years later I think about you all the time. We were not very close but we were in many of the same classes for all four years of high school. I had gotten used to your presence and had such good memories of your humour and kindness. Even now I can distinctly remember the sound of your laugh as you joked and made conversation. You were such a vibrant person and it hurts me very much that we lost that. We were the same age and I often think about you as I grow and wish you weren't denied the decades of life that you had ahead of you. I am glad you are remembered now so lovingly by those who loved and cared about you. You were intelligent and fun and kind. I won't ever forget you.

Jusleen Kaur Academic Excellence Scholarship
This scholarship was established by myself (Raj Kaur) in honour of my precious, beloved daughter, Jusleen Kaur. The last two decades spent in her presence have been the best of my entire life. I find no higher honour than to be known as the mother of Jusleen Kaur. Her brother Saajan, is extremely fortunate to have her as an older sister and brilliant role model.
In 2000, a mom's prayer was answered and an invaluable blessing was bestowed. Since then, Jusleen has carried an internal spark which exudes an abundance of joy, hope, optimism, warmth, compassion, loyalty, confidence, bravery, resilience, perseverance, excellence in academic endeavours/extracurriculars amongst numerous other positive attributes.
With this award, it is my sincere hope that the selected recipients progress forward carrying the same spark throughout their journey, while creating a most cherished, meaningful and honourable life.
Eligible candidates are full-time undergraduate students entering Year 2 of the Honours Bachelor of Business Administration/Honours Bachelor of Arts Financial Mathematics double-degree program program, who demonstrate financial need.
The recipient will have the highest cumulative GPA at the end of Year 1 of the same academic program. In the case of a tie, the recipient will be the eligible candidate who was admitted to the program with the highest admission average.
As this scholarship is funded by myself, this scholarship is not open for any external donations.

Dear Adrian,
Thank you so much for your very kind and comforting words of solace. Jusleen loved her time at Fairwind and was involved in a lot of the school activities. Indeed, she was a very bright and positive light. We miss her beyond words and it is still hard to believe she is not physically present even though we think about her all the time. God bless her and may she rest in forever peace!! Once again, thanks and please take care.

Speech written by Jasey’s baby brother that he was unable to read himself:
My sister was one of the most hardworking, caring, and kind person anyone could ever meet. She helped me through troubled times and always had my back. An example that perfectly depicts this; was when my grandmother passed away. She reminded me that everything would be alright. Now that she is gone, I need to remember what she had told me. I will remember her for the rest of my life and be the person she would want me to be. I was utterly lucky to have a person like that to be my sister. I loved her but I know she is inside my heart and resting beside god.

Speech read by some of Jusleen’s friends from high school and university:
When we think of Jusleen, we think honesty, persistence and selflessness. Every birthday, we would wake up to the longest, heartfelt message. It didn’t matter if we were in high school or university, she always made an effort to make us feel loved. She radiated confidence and positivity everywhere she went, to the point where she lightened up everyones souls. Jusleen never had a sister but we always felt like we were family. She spent the most time with us and no matter what the situation, we knew that we could always count on her. Even though we were about two hours away from her, we always knew we would get a response from her right away. Her heart was pure; like no other.
Jusleen was always the closest to her family. She would always talk about her family. Her identity was shaped by her mom, dad and saajan. Each day she would come to school with a story about something that happened. She would always show us the texts from Saajan and would always turn it into something funny, no matter what she was going through. Humor was one thing she used to get through in life and its so beautiful to think that someone would turn negative thoughts into positivity.
Let’s follow Jusleen’s footsteps, carry on traditions and celebrate her life. she would want us to be smiling right now; she wanted everyone to come together as a family. the 6 years she gave to us are going to be the most memorable of our lives; and her memory will live on forever. her bright smile; her beautiful words; will live on in our hearts.

Speech read by Jusleen‘s friend from Junior Kindergarten all the way to university:
Looking back at my life, I can’t remember a time where Jusleen wasn’t apart of it. I still remember the first time I saw you, I was so surprised with how caring and outgoing you were. You showed me and taught me so much throughout your life. You showed me beauty through your smile, taught me love with the way you took care of your friends and I always admired how driven and ambitious you were. I was always excited to see your future successes and you always motivated me to work harder and be more outspoken. You always told me that you wanted to be an independent and strong woman like your mother, and a lovable and caring person like your father. You taught me to take care of my family and to be closer with my siblings because you were a great sister and role model to Saajan. I will never forget about you and I know no one in this room will too. I know you will always be watching over us sending us your love. One thing you always wanted was for everyone to come together and your dream has come true today. Rest in peace angel and I will always remember you.

Speech read at the funeral by Jusleen’s primary school friend from Grade one all the way to University:
Listing all of Jusleen's amazing qualities would take an eternity, from her contagious laugh to her intense academic focus she was a A plus type personality. She effectively made all her peers better people through actively listening and sharing her precious ideas with everyone. Every room lit up with her energy no matter the situations.
Her persistence and confidence is out of this world. Regularly, she overcame every obstacle that came in her way and she did it with a ear-to- ear smile.
The strength that she consistently demonstrates making sure no one knew how she truly feels on the inside is something she only could do that well. Strength was not the only thing that she taught me, she also was extremely driven and made sure she always had her short and long term goals prioritized. She also taught me the importance of God in the household and that is something I cherish with myself everyday.
Now I don't speak Indian languages often but I'd like to leave jus with a final message in her mother tongue...
May your bright smile continue to shine, your beautiful eyes continue to sparkle, and your intricate soul continue to live on through all the people you've impacted over your wonderful life.

Speech read by Jusleens’ cousin:
Jusleen and I shared countless moments. Every single moment being special. But I have one memory that holds a place right next to her. And it was simply listening to Coldplay together on her record player. There’s a song that was released by them in 2015, and it goes by the name “Everglow”. The word “Everglow” itself is simply a feeling of love, peace, and warmth, and it’s given by someone or something that you’ve lost. I never understood the feeling, so I never understood the song. Listening to it these past few days have been different than the rest. Jusleen was more than just my blood. She was someone I looked up to. She was someone who inspired me. She was my shoulder to lean on. She was my best-friend. She was my big-sister. She was my light. And now, I can easily say Jusleen was my everglow. Her presence alone gave me a sense of love. Her words alone gave me a sense of peace. And her beautiful smile alone gave me a sense of warmth. She left a light in my life. She left a light in every single person she came across. She had an effect no one else could possibly sustain. But she left that light that will never dim. That light she left will everglow.
