Obituary of Roheet Ummat

It is with deep sadness and regret that the family of Roheet Ummat announce his passing on December 31, 2021 at the age of 58. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Seema; his two beautiful daughters, Reva and Shyla; his parents, Satish and Prem Ummat; his sister, Bandna (late Gulshan) Sawhney; his brother, Alok (Shruti) Ummat; his brother-in-law, Pawan (Christeen) Kapur; and all of his extended family around the world. Roheet was born in Ludhiana, India and moved to Saint John, NB, Canada when he was a child. He lived there until early adulthood and eventually settled in Ontario. He had a love of sports that included playing street hockey with his friends, tossing a ball with his brother, and cheering passionately for his favourite sports teams – the Flyers and the Yankees. In 1988, Roheet married Seema, the love of his life and best friend, and soon after they were blessed with two wonderful daughters. Throughout his life, Roheet was the epitome of a caring, selfless, and generous person. He approached life with humility and a smile, and it was this humbleness that allowed him to easily make friends wherever he went. He loved life, people, and connecting. He found ways to communicate with others, even in the face of language barriers and cultural differences. He didn’t just care about people, but all living creatures, and never felt that any one life is more valuable than another. Roheet devoted his life to his family and friends. He worked hard to protect and serve his wife, parents, and children, as he wanted to relieve them of their burdens. In addition to his many passions – including barbequing, napping, and making people laugh, he was deeply spiritual. He found solace and purpose in his faith, and practiced teachings that were harnessed around dignity, respect, as well as genuine and selfless love. His thoughtful and loving nature were captured in his poetry, which will continue to be preserved and cherished by his family and friends. The world has lost one of its most pure, kind, and loving souls. He will be missed profoundly, but his impact on his loved ones and his community will never be forgotten.
