Obituary of Alicia Patel D'Souza
Alicia Patel D'Souza – Flown West
Alicia was born on August 10, 1999 in Toronto, Ontario. She passed away suddenly on August 28, 2023 when her plane crashed near Claresholm, Alberta during a test flight following major repairs. Alicia was a trained and skilled pilot. She attended Newtonbrook SS, Wildred Laurier University, and completed her commercial pilot license at Harv’s Air, in Steinbach, Manitoba. She was passionately involved with the Manitoba Chapter of the Ninety-Nines, an international organization for women pilots that promotes advancement of aviation through education, scholarships, and mutual support. Members of the 99s have shared that “Alicia’s passion, professionalism, enthusiasm, spirit and sparkle will live on in each of us that she touched in her life. Alicia will be deeply missed and always remembered by the aviation community”, and “Her passion and determination shone through our flights together.”
She had a true love of plants, animals, dance and flying. Alicia was an enthusiast in life and loved spending time with family and friends. She gave the warmest and tightest hugs that reached your soul, and had the most radiant smile that lit up every room.
Alicia leaves behind her mother Anita Patel, father Keith D’Souza, sister Jasmine D’Souza, soulmate Jurgen Tay, grandparents Vilma D’Souza, Chhaganbhai Patel, and all of her loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. Alicia’s spirit has been received by her grandparents Bryan D’Souza and Vimla Patel. She was taken from us too early but she will always be in our hearts.
The funeral will take place from 3-5pm on Saturday, September 9th, 2023, at Lotus Funeral Home, 121 City View Drive, Etobicoke. A reception will follow at Woodbine Banquet Hall (South Hall), 30 Vice Regent Blvd, Etobicoke.
