Obituary of Aleksandar Matijaca
On the morning of January 15, 2024, Aleks Matijaca passed away after a long and brave battle with cancer. Aleks was born in Serbia and emigrated to Canada with his family as a teenager. After receiving a computer science degree from York University, he excelled as a software engineer and received much recognition for his work as a developper.
Besides his technical prowess, he was an active founding member of the Toronto Audiophiles club, a coffee connoisseur and a dear husband, dad, and friend. Nothing put a bigger smile on his face than when he saw family and friends enjoying a cup of coffee he prepared using the optimal combination of freshly roasted coffee beans, water temperature and brewing time, all while telling stories of his trips around the world or sharing unusual facts about world history, IT and the software development industry.
Aleks is survived by his wife Helena, his son Marko, his cousin Svetlana and several family members and close friends in the USA, Chile and Serbia.
